Bursary FAQs
The UCAT Bursary scheme is open to UK candidates who meet the bursary criteria.
How do I apply for a bursary/what evidence do I need?
Our bursary page outlines the bursary eligibility criteria, the application process and the supporting evidence required.
You can still apply for a bursary if you have already paid for your test.
If you are approved for a bursary after paying for your test, you need to request a refund by submitting a 'Help Request' from your UCAT Account. Refunds must be requested by 16 October 2026 at (17:00 UK Time).
Yes. The UCAT Bursary is only valid for that year of testing. We do not keep evidence or applications from previous test years for data protection reasons. You must make a new application for a bursary and provide evidence that meets the requirements of the year of testing.
Our bursary criteria cover most UK low-income households. Occasionally, we consider evidence on a case-by-case basis.
The following awards/benefits or evidence are not accepted under any circumstances:
- Scholarships, bursaries or free school meals at independent or fee-paying schools;
- Postgraduate Loan, Advanced Learner Loan or Nursing and Midwifery Student Bursary;
- Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Child Benefit or Personal Independence Payment (PIP);
- Annual accounts or a P60 end of year certificate.
This list is not comprehensive.
Candidates unable to take out Student Finance loans for religious/cultural reasons should submit a 'Help Request' through their UCAT Account for advice on alternative evidence.
Please submit a 'Help Request' from your UCAT Account.
